Technical Bulletin TRM/95Some pressroom solvents may be harmful to the image on aqueous negative plates. Because plates will react differently to various solvents, check solvent resistance before running plates. To determine if a chemical will harm a negative plate, perform the following procedure. 1. Expose the entire plate to your recommended exposure. Process the plate by normal procedures. 2. Place the plate on a flat surface and apply the chemical(s) to the plate using a Webril® wipe or similar cotton pad. 3. Leave the Webril wipe or cotton pad on the plate for 5 minutes. 4. After 5 minutes, rub the area on the plate ten times in a circular motion using the Webril wipe or cotton pad. 5. If there is only a slight color change to the plate or slight coating on the wipe, the chemical in question should be okay to use on that plate. If the coating is removed, discontinue use of that particular chemical. If a problem chemical has been identified, contact the chemistry supplier or dealer to identify a suitable substitute.
